Close-Up: Deliveries

Heather Hansen works for Airport Delivery Service, a company that delivers packages to local companies after the packages arrive by plane at the airport. She drives a van and delivers small packages only, mostly to the center of the city.

     One day Heather’s manager asks her to switch routes with another driver who is sick. Heather is given a map, a much bigger truck, and invoices for several large boxes that have to be delivered. Though Heather is not comfortable driving the big truck, she knows her manager needs her to fill in. She checks the map, asks a few questions, and goes on her way.

     Halfway through the new route, Heather’s big truck gets stuck in a tunnel because it is too tall for clearance. She knows that customers are relying on the deliveries by late afternoon. Traffic is beginning to backup.
