4. Consider a factory-certified car
Most major auto manufacturers now have programs for “certifying” used cars. This means that one of the manufacturer’s car dealers inspects the car.
If the car passes inspection, the manufacturer provides an extra warranty. This can help you if the car needs expensive repairs later on.
Factory-certified cars cost a bit more. But you have the comfort of knowing that the car is backed by the manufacturer.
Recommendations when buying a factory-certified car:
- Read the warranty agreement carefully.
- See how many problems it covers.
- Be sure the warranty comes from the original manufacturer rather than some other company.
- Ask to see the actual inspection report.
- What did the inspector find wrong with the car? What was fixed?
